The Book of Ruth:Recap

Ruth is a beautiful story which outlines the love and sacfifice a young woman shows for her mother-in-law.  After loosing her husband, Ruth decides to stay with her mother-in-law as oppose to going back to her home. I thought of myself after reading this story.  If, God forbid, I had lost my wife and we had no children.  Would I stay close to my mother-in-law and nurse her through her final days? Would my wife do the same for my mother?  How many people do you know that demonstrates that kind of selfless love.  I don’t know many.

Judges

I’m halfway through the book of Judges and it is very interesting.  The people of Israel consistently angered God and were punished for their disobedience. Each time the angered the Lord, they found their themselves under the rule of their enemies. After a few years of crying and pleading, God delivered them and a ruler brings them out of bondage once more.  The Old Testament really gives you the fear of the Lord.  You sinned and you were judged (usually killed) right there on the spot.  Judges shows the forgiveness and tolerance of God.  Each time the Israelites messed up, they were punished but forgiven and delivered once more.  I think of my kids, 2.5 and 1.5 years of age.  Even at their young ages, they often anger me by fighting with eachother, breaking things (my laptop [aarrgghhh!!]), not eating  etc…  But my love for them is infinate and does not diminish.  I can’t stay mad at them, even when I try.

Joshua

I finished reading the book of Joshua, way past schedule.  It was pretty good.  Some insightful passages.  The beginning was very intersting.  The wars and shortcomings of God’s chosen people kept me very interested. Towards the end it became very difficult to continue.  I am hoping the 2nd or 3rd time I read the Holy Bible I will gain some appreciation and fascination in reading how the promise land was divided among the tribesof Israel but at this moment it was extremely difficult to get through.  I felt asleep several times but i managed to get past it.  It closes off with Joshua giving the Israelites a warning and blessing.   Pretty much a reminder of what God has given them and how far they have come along.  If they choose to keep their faith with God then everything will great and blessings will continue to flow but if they venture off and start worshiping other gods, it won’t be pretty.

Joshua 7-24 (Achan Stoned)

Achan was unfaithful in regard to devoted things. he took from the plunder gold, silver, a gold wedge and a robe. The punishment, death for him and his family.  The stolen objects, Achan and his family were old burned.  What I received from this passage is:  When you steer from God’s will, your not only putting yourself in harms way.  Your loved ones may suffer as well.  Pretty scary but your decisions may effect your entire household.

The Book of Genesis, such a good read.

When you decide to read the Bible, the book of Genesis well definitely keep you going.  If you can get past all the begat and begot lineage sections, your in the clear.  This book is the first of the bible and tells the story of Adam and Eve.  Well Eve pretty much ruined us all.  Adam had nothing to do with it.  He was tricked by that evil woman.  JK.  It’s pretty sad.  Imagining how good those two had it and how life must have been such a breeze. Oh well, no need crying over spilled milk, or eaten fruit for that matter.  I’ll just go work the land and have my wife deliver some painful babies.  Life could be worst.  Hmm, well this is my first post, I’ll try and sound a little more cheery moving forward.
